Kansas City Power and Light District

The Kansas City Power and Light District is predominately a nighttime playground for Kansas City’s young and hip, and for those that wish they were. Neither of which, I am. (This is okay for me, because it leaves Westport a little more open for the 40’s, laid-back crowd. Of which, I am. LOL)

I think it's a very vibrant, well done area. The mix of big name chain establishments like Ted’s Montana Grill and Lucky Strike Lanes & Lounge, along with homegrown success stories like Cosentino’s Market, The Mixx, and The Peachtree Restaurant, show a well executed plan for bringing people back downtown.

KC Live Entertainment District

The eight block area has close to 50 assorted businesses, the AMC Mainstreet 6 Theater, The Midland Theater for live performances, and the KC Live! Entertainment District. The latter of which is a covered, open air concert and event space, open all year ‘round. (This is THE place to be on New Year‘s Eve).

During the daylight hours the P & L District appeals to a more diverse group. Weekdays find business people and workers, from all walks, having lunch, picking up their dry cleaning, or grabbing a few groceries.

Daytime, on the weekends, can mean Family Fun Days, car shows, art festivals and more. Check the Power and Light District’s calendar for a full listing.

From someone who loves Kansas City and wants to see new places thrive, I sincerely hope that the Cordish Company, the property managers, can get a grip on the appropriate image for the area. Their ongoing public relations fiascos don’t help. This should be a place that welcomes everyone from the Kansas City area and our visitors.
