Kansas City Drive-In Movie Theaters
Kansas City Drive-In Movie Theaters may be rare but, according to the
U.D.I.T.O.A.
(United Drive In Theatre Owners Association) as of July 31, 2007 there were approximately 383 drive-ins in the US, and the Kansas City area is fortunate enough to have three of these “community living rooms”. My family loves going to the drive-in. My parents took me as a child, and my husband and I are continuing the tradition with our daughter; we’re even expanding on the tradition a little bit--my husband and daughter think that you MUST have a corndog at the drive-in. I don’t know which, if any, Cineplex you can get a corndog at, but I sure know you can get one at the I-70 Drive-In!
I-70 Drive-In
8701 East Highway 40, Kansas City, MO 64129. Phone 816.861.0501. One of the great drive-in movie marquees. This is my local Kansas City drive-in theater. I’ve been going here since I was a child, and my family continues to attend this drive-in every year. I love the atmosphere. Bonus--on Friday nights when the Royals are playing at home you get to enjoy the fireworks! Beware though, I try to drink as little as possible when we go here. I think the bathrooms are about as old as I am. They are flat out gnarly.

Boulevard Drive-In
1051 Merriam Lane, Kansas City, KS 66103. Phone 913-262-2414. Great drive-in. Beautiful setting. Absolutely top-notch technology. Please check out their website. It is just a wonderful piece of work. Just a note though, if it’s been doing much raining--call first--it is way too prone to flooding.
Twin Drive-In
1320 North 291 & Kentucky Road, Independence, MO 64055. Phone 816.257.2234 Two decidedly different, but excellent, movie memories from this theater: "Bonnie & Clyde" with my parents. "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" with a huge, probably 20+, group of my husband's friends, before we were married.
