Kansas City Chain Movie Theaters Featuring First Run Movies

Kansas City chain movie theaters are in every neighborhood. Three of these chains have their roots right here in the KC area.

AMC Theatres was founded here in 1920.

Dickinson Theatres which was founded in Manhattan, Kansas, also in 1920, and moved their headquarters to Mission, Kansas in the 1950’s.

Liberty, Missouri is home to B & B Theatres. While perhaps B & B doesn‘t have the name recognition the other two companies enjoy, it is in fact, the 26th largest movie company in the nation.

Each of their websites offers a more detailed look into their history.

Without further delay, here is the listing for all of our Kansas City chain movie theaters:

B & B Theatres Home Page

Please check out their website. This theater company has made itself the 26th largest movie company by finding its niche' as a "home town" theater chain.

Their market is smaller communities in Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma. I think this is a wonderful business concept.

If you find yourself visiting Grandma and the cousins out in Chanute, Kansas, your college student in Bolivar, Missouri, or my daddy's family in and around Miami, Oklahoma spend an afternoon or evening with the them enjoying a first run movie at the local B & B Theatre. (Personal side note, I love you Uncle Bud & Aunt Juanda! I know this has nothing to do with movies, but if you know anyone looking for a puppy contact me. Aunt Juanda breeds the sweetest little Chihuahua babies!).

Their local offering:

Globe Cinemas Home Page

I believe Globe Cinemas is another Kansas City based multi-faceted, theater chain. However, their website needs a lot of work--including an "about us" page!

The Pharaoh Cinema Independence Square 114 West Maple Street, Independence, MO 64050. Phone 816.836.9555. This is another one of my favorites for several reasons.

First is that I have childhood memories of going to the movies "On the Square". My cousin David took me to see "Smokey and the Bandit" when I was probably about 12. We were actually trying to go see "Star Wars" over at the old Glenwood in Overland Park, but it was too icy on 435, so we had to turn around and head back towards home. He didn't give up though. He just took me to the closest theater to his parents' home--which was the theater at the Square. We had a great time anyway!

Second is that the owners have done a tremendous amount of work renovating this theater. They've made it charming and comfortable.

Third is really for my parents. They can take my daughter and see a movie here for only $5.00 each, any time. In the day of $8 and $9 movie tickets, this is a really good value for first run movies.
