Where do we go to play hockey, snow ski or ice/figure skate in Kansas City?

Kansas City hockey addicts, snow skiing enthusiasts and figure skating lovers have a multitude of opportunities to indulge themselves.

The see and be seen ice rink is of course the Crown Center Ice Terrace at 2450 Grand Blvd, KC, MO. Phone 816-274-8411. Check the link above for fees and specials, including Two for One Tuesdays.

This is KC’s only outdoor rink, and is now in it‘s 36th year. The season runs from November to March. They are open seven days a week, 10 am to 9 pm, with extended Friday and Saturday hours during December and January.

The magic of twirling around the ice, under the glittery Christmas lights from Crown Center and the Mayor’s Christmas Tree, is the stuff dreams and traditions are made of.

Crown Center Ice Terrace

Many families have done just that--they’ve made a family skate day, or evening, part of their holiday traditions. You can also work in some shopping and seasonal entertainment right across the street at Crown Center, without ever having to re-park your car.

Ice skating at the Crown Center Ice Terrace can also be a very romantic thing to do in Kansas City. Imagine holding hands and gliding across the ice, then taking a break and snuggling together while sipping hot cocoa. Grab dinner at one of the amazing restaurants in and around Crown Center and the romance factor shifts to high.

Hey, what better way could there be to work off all those holiday goodies and stick to your New Year’s resolution to get more exercise, than by enjoying this beautiful rink in the heart of our home town?

Ice Sports KC 19900 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 913-441-3033. This place is a full-fledged entertainment venue. They have an ice sports arena with a NHL-sized hockey rink and seating for 800, ample parking and multiple locker rooms. They offer a pro shop, full concessions, lessons, hockey leagues, figure skating, public skating sessions, a broomball league is in the works, and they even have a putt-putt golf course.

The putt-putt course would seem like an unusual choice of additions, except for the fact that this place flat out caters to those wanting to have a party! It doesn’t matter if it’s for your business, school, church or even your family reunion; everyone is going to find something fun to do. Ice Skating, Hockey, Broomball, Ice Bowling, Dancing, Music, Food Specials, Video Games and yes, even mini-golf are activities you can choose from.

They will work with you to accommodate your group whether you wish to skate during a public session, rent the ice by the hour or even have a lock-in. Contact Michael Uvodich at JMika@icesportskc.com for details.

Pepsi Ice Midwest Skating and Training Center 12140 W 135th St, Overland Park, KS, 66221 ph. (913) 851-1600 is the largest ice rink facility in the Kansas City metro.

Pepsi Ice Midwest Skating and Training Center

The two NHL size rinks, plus one smaller practice rink, play host to KU Jayhawk Hockey, as well as many community and corporate teams.

Pepsi Ice Midwest also offers a full service pro-shop, deli, Slap Shots sports lounge, arcade room and three private party rooms. It also features a babysitting room, aerobics rooms, and fitness center. Talk about full-service!

Kansas City Curling Club also calls the facility home. Who knew? KC has a Curling Club! I get a kick from all the intensity the athletes show during this Olympic event. It appears to take a great deal of concentration and finesse. If you’d like more information about this team sport, please give them a call.

Finally, Kansas City also has a community center that offers figure skating. This was a hidden gem for me. Line Creek Community Center 5940 N.W. Waukomis Drive, Kansas City, MO 64151, Phone: (816) 513-0760, offers a 185’ x 85’ rink with plenty of public skate time and reasonable admission.

If you prefer your water in liquid form, they have an outdoor, three lane, zero depth entry pool, when it‘s warmer, of course. They have fitness facilities, soccer fields, baseball diamonds and the KC Northern Railroad , with its miniature “touring” trains. Terrific for the engineer wanna be, regardless of age! I'm sorry I don't have an image of these. Just click on the link, and you'll see the pictures on their site.

Kansas City and snow skiing. Who would have thought the two would belong together? Snow Creek in Weston, Missouri brings them together beautifully.

Snow Creek Weston Missouri

Here you can ski, board or tube on up to 12 runs of powder. Sixty snow machines, producing up to 12” in 24 hours, ensure your family fun on a variety of trails.
